Work Experience Requirements for MS
How much does work experience matters for pursuing a MS in the US, does it need to be industry specific?

For MS mostly they are looking at your interest in the field of specialization as to how passionately you want to do it and how can you contribute through the knowledge you are intending to gain. Industrial work experience provides you with that platform to show your interests and unless it is industry specific it will loose its intended value. 2 years 29 weeks ago |

Hi Sahil, From what I gather, prestigious graduate schools look for your ability to perform good research. This can be gauged through your industrial work experience if it has shaped your research interest and if you have picked up tools that will aid in your research. If you have work experience at a research institution or the research arm of a business, it may be very valuable to your application. I think in general work experience can't hurt, especially if you can get a good recommendation from it which speaks well of your work ethic, interest and intelligence. Best, 2 years 28 weeks ago |

Also since admission for MS (US) usually involves a lot of factors, work experience adds a lot of value in spite of being unspecific. It then is a function of your course of specialization and how well you can relate that to your work ex. It also speaks a lot about your soft skills developed while working.
