I think the vocabulary section is key to the GRE and your main focus should be on that. The math section should come naturally to you as an engineering student. Hope that helps. 2 years 37 weeks ago |

Your are quite right about that Vaibhav. The structure to score revolves around your basics in Maths, general reasoning, understanding and usage of English Language & English vocabulary. English vocab turns out be relatively difficult of the lot when compared with Maths for Engineering students. Good Luck Yogita 2 years 29 weeks ago |

I would very much agree with Yogita. Anyway, you may always ask me, if you want me to elaborate on any particular aspect of GRE or if there is any other query. Cheers, 2 years 29 weeks ago |

I am final year engineering student. I am too preparing for it.
To get good score in GRE you've to work hard in both maths and verbal section. Maths is quite easy as being part of engineering background but verbal is quite tough. to score in verbal you should have good vocabulary.Basically there are scads of book for GRE but niceties are provided in Barons, GRE NOVA, GRE BIBLE.These are sufficient books to get through GRE.But dont go through these book ostensibly but to its depth. For voabulary there is one institute called MAHAVIR JAIN ACADEMY in Delhi. You can join it to improve for your vocab.
ALL THE BEST.
cheers

I suggest you still take a test and see for yourself the area when you are lacking and accordingly plan your preparation.
For preparation on vocab you would be looking at Barons and other wordlists. But it is quite difficult to memorize all the words in a period of two months and thats where you must think smart and try to memorize word roots first. It is quite helpful and easy to memorize every word you come across after that by creating links with the roots as most words in English have their origin from the basic roots given in Barons. There are quite a few words you come across during the GRE test you will not have seen before but you could take good guesses based on your knowledge of word roots.
I have quite conveniently assumed here that cramming the wordlist is the tougher one. If there is anything else do ask!
Good Luck

For Verbal Section I would like to add Kaplan GRE books. They are pretty good. The emphasis is on words' roots (etymology). Going through Baron's wordlists is very useful. However, I would also suggest to go through Kaplan GRE's verbal related books (esp. for those who find cramming Baron word lists to be a horrendous task). With emphasis on etymology, you would find it easier to retain words in memory.
Anyway, you may always ask me, if you want me to elaborate on any particular aspect of GRE or if there is any other query.
